NOVATO, Marin County — October 26, 2026. The ongoing Petaluma River Bridge rehabilitation on State Route 37 will bring overnight lane reductions this week for drivers traveling between Marin and Sonoma counties. Caltrans says crews will close one of two lanes in each direction between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, with work continuing into Saturday morning.

Caltrans emphasizes that at least one lane in each direction will remain open. Workers plan to grind and repave the center median, shift traffic onto newly prepared pavement and add temporary concrete barriers. A later phase will remove outside bridge barriers on the eastbound side.

Bridge project versus sea-level-rise program

This particular rehabilitation focuses on the Petaluma River Bridge structure and deck. Caltrans says it is separate from longer-term SR-37 sea-level rise projects, even though both affect the same regional transportation corridor. Work on the bridge may continue into 2028 subject to conditions. It would therefore be inaccurate to report this week’s lane restrictions as completion of broader flood-resilience work.
