NOVATO, Marin County — October 31, 2026. The City of Novato’s 2026 annual street rehabilitation program is focused on Redwood Boulevard between Rowland Boulevard and Rush Creek Place, combining road-surface work with a bicycle safety component. The city describes an estimated $1.9 million project covering construction, development and management.
What is planned for the pavement?
The official Public Works project page outlines crack sealing, slurry sealing and targeted removal and replacement of damaged roadway material. The program uses pavement-condition measurements and traffic data to select repairs. Those treatments are not identical: sealing helps protect the roadway surface, while localized reconstruction is meant for places where the pavement structure has deteriorated more seriously.
The proposed bikeway is different from an ordinary painted lane
The city’s project information includes a Class IV bikeway along much of the corridor, meaning a bicycle facility with a physical separation element such as a curb, bollard or similar barrier. That differs from a standard striped bicycle lane. The ultimate appearance depends on completed construction and markings, so riders should not assume a new layout is fully available until signs and barriers are in place.
What was the construction window?
The city listed a tentative August-to-October 2026 construction schedule. A tentative schedule cannot establish whether every item was completed by October 31. Novato’s official communications also described overnight striping work in late October. Residents should check current notices before relying on a specific lane being open or closed.
How can residents follow the project?
The city provides updates through novato.gov’s street-paving project page. Its listed project contact is Ali Iqbal, 415-899-8997. Construction-period routes, bus service, parking access and permitted loading should be checked using the current municipal notice and onsite signs.
